Ageing.....

It's funny but lately we've been thinking a little about getting older....note I said Older rather than Old. It's a funny thing that we all face but don't really talk about that much or often. Getting old in LA can be particularly difficult as we are surrounded by youth and physical beauty that can constantly remind us. It's funny how there can sometimes be a moment when you suddenly realise you have gotten older, and it can be the smallest thing. Clare had one of those moments the other day. A guy she had met recently and become friends with sent her an e-mail calling her a "lovely lady" and it brought Clare up short. It was so funny to see those words because somewhere in Clare's mind, she's still 17 or 26 or 31 and when you're looking out from the inside, sometimes you don't feel any different so you forget you look different. Not old, but definitely older. Apparently like a lady, a woman, not a girl, and she had to face the facts. And she thought about it, and decided it was actually
OK.
I think the best way to deal with ageing is simply to keep telling yourself you're fabulous and try try try not to engage in acts of looking for things wrong, but focusing on what is right. THEN work on being fabulous, charming, funny and interesting to distract everyone else from your faults (not that anyone is remotely interested in your flaws, so keep them to yourself, please!) I find It works beautifully on babies, us dogs and people of either sex.
Cheaper than Botox and twice as a satisfying. Confidence is worth far more than beauty because a) it can keep on growing, b) it can be faked and c) it suggests hidden resources that people will be drawn to discover. So get yourself some confidence before your looks start to fade and you'll be just fine :) “Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter.
So yesterday the geniusly funny Russell Brand came over to read Clare and Paul the chapter of his new book that includes an hilarious story about Paul in it. He sat outside and read the chapter as if he were acting it out and I am not sure I have ever heard anything funnier. I wonder what it would be like to look at life through his eyes, and now I know, and it is just hysterical. He is an amazing writer and just a very very good guy. It's always fun to see him.
The other good news is that Kate Buckley arrived yesterday. She is here for the weekend and for the premiere of Rhys Ifan's film with Ben Stiller so we should all have the best time ever. I shall keep you posted and end with this to remind you all....“The age of a woman doesn't mean a thing. The best tunes are played on the oldest fiddles.” xxxx
