First Impressions....

Isn't it funny how you can know somebody a really long time and imagine that they are someone completely different to who they are. I find that people often miss out on other people because they make too quick a judgement about that person based on some very silly things. It's so easy to look at someone, meet them briefly and then decide that you know what they're like and who they are. Because very often, when you dig a little deeper, when you give somebody a chance and really get to know them, you can be so pleasantly surprised. I think it's what keeps people apart, focusing on the differences instead of the similarities, thinking that because you have seemingly little in common on the outside that your insides must be different. Dogs aren't really like that. When I go to the dog park I play with whatever dog wants to play and I don't base that decision based on what colour, size, age, religion or class they are. OBVIOUSLY. And I think we're happier and have more friends as a result.
It was Aesop who said that Appearances can be deceptive and they so often can, both ways really. Clare likes to say " What I
have to say is far more important than how long my eyelashes are." which I think is her way of saying that looks aren't everything. It's good to remember that andI think it's good to go from the belief that everybody can teach you something, that everybody is interesting and could potentially be a new friend, and to at least give somebody time so you can find out if you like each other and are a good fit. Clare tries, but even she gets suprised sometimes. And it's such a treat to find a new friend in a place you would least expect it. Just thanks to having a semi open mind and heart.
So this weekend was such fun. Saturday night we dropped in to The Palihouse for Matthew Rhys' annual St David's Day party which was so much fun. Lots of roast lamb and leeks and Dylan Thomas Cocktails.
Hilarious. Matthew was resplendent as ever in a kilt and there were so many people we knew there we nearly didn't get out in time for dinner with Simon, Ryan and Mezhgan at Ceconni's. Luckily we made it in time and had such a fabulous evening. When we finally got home we climbed into bed and Clare snuggled up with me and Bentley and we fell asleep all wrapped round each other. My favourite thing in the whole world is falling asleep listening to the breathing of people I love and knowing we're all safe and well for another night. Bliss. xxx Oh and just in case you were wondering what's up with the photos....Clare found the effects button on the iphoto library so everything has gone sepia and antique for now :) and that's Bentley wearing Ollie's cap !!
